Ethnic Sociology

Course Contents

Etnomusicology Theory contains descriptions, classifications, comparisons, comments and generalizations about music. Therefore, the theorems from which benefited in Etnomusicology are used in combination with other theorems rather than on their own. Those theorems that are used in the Etnomusicology will be studied such as, structural functional theorem, theory of linguistics, theory of etnology, theory of paradigmatic structuralism, theory of performance, feminist theory, theory of interpretive anthropology, poststructuralist theory and theory of postmodernism. The structure of music and tendency that aims to reveal the rules contained in this structure and specification of the meaning of music for culture/society in the studies of Etnomusicology will be reviewed. Together with structural features of music, performance pratices, performance contexts, the symbolic meaning they contain, production relations realized in it, gender of society and power relations and culture of music will conveyed under the framework of relation of music and language.
