Course Contents

In this course, comparisons of musical elements that belong to Turkish world like “makam”, “usul”, “form” and “güfte” and terminology will be considered and development and augmentation processes of these musical elements will be investigated and evaluated on musical pieces through analytical studies. Musical instruments of Turkish world contain elements of various Turkic societies in itsef that live on different countries and geographies. With the purpose of considering Turkish musical instruments together, musics of Turkic societies in Turkey and abroad willl be studied. Musical culture of Azerbaijani Turks from the Oguz branch, Syrian Turkmens and Western Thracian Turks which are part of the group of Western Turks and Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Turks which are in the group of Turkestan Turks and important elements that effect each other in musical culture in Turkey will be reviewed.
