The molecular basis of gastrointestinal bacterial and parasitic infections and their treatments will be discussed. New generation antibiotics and peptide-based molecules developed as an alternative to antibiotics will be discussed. Clinical studies in this field will be examined and comments will be made on the results of these studies.
