Course Contents

The Internal structure of atoms. Decay mechanisms of radioactive atoms. The K-Ar method of dating; Isotopes of K and Ar, applicable of the method for the rocks and minerals. 40Ar-39Ar method of dating; Principles of the method, the incremental and laser techniques. applicable of the method for the rocks and minerals. Interpretation of the results. Comparison of the two methods and their accuracy and precision. The Rb-Sr method of dating; Dating of Rb-bearing minerals in igneous rocks. Dating of metamorphic and unmetamorphic rocks. The other radiometric dating methods, such as U-Th-Pb, Nd-Sm, C-14, and their advantage and disadvantages.

10) The 40Ar/39Ar method of dating. The incremental heating technique and the other techniques for dating. Comparison of K-Ar and 40Ar/39Ar method of datings.
11) The Rb-Sr method of dating. Some examples for Rb-Sr dating
12) The Sm-Nd method of dating. Some examples for Sm-Nd dating
13) The U, Th-Pb method of dating. Some examples for U, Th-Pb dating
14) The Re-Os method of dating. Some examples for Re-Os dating
