Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Has extensive knowledge about basic concepts and combustion types (theoretical complete combustion, incomplete combustion and partial incomplete combustion).
2) Solves various problems related to combustion reactions.
3) Students calculate the combustion products and pollutant emissions that will occur with the combustion of fuel.
4) Knows the precautions to be taken and the limitations against pollutant emissions.
5) Has information about the methods applied to reduce pollutant emissions.

Greenhouse effect. Kyoto Protocol. Fuels and Basic Principles of Combustion. Ideal Gas Model. General Combustion Equations. Theoretical Combustion. Air-Fuel Ratio. Incomplete Combustion. First Law of Thermodynamics-Energy Balance; Enthalpy of Formation; Thermal Values; Adiabatic Flame Temperature; Combustion Efficiency. Alternative Fuels. Combustion Products (HC, NOx, CO, CO2, PM etc.) and Formations. Effects of Fuel Properties on Combustion and Emissions. Emission Control Techniques.
