Course Contents

Within the scope of the course, the basic principles of scientific ethics are discussed, starting from the question of why the method is important in media studies and discussing various research methods such as quantitative, qualitative and critical cultural studies.

Weekly Schedule

1) Information will be given about the content of the course.
2) Basic concepts relating to the scientific method of research are discussed within the framework of the Enlightenment, Rationalism and Positivism.
3) Principles of the scientific methodology and types of scientific research will be explained.
4) The process of preperation of scientific research proposal will be explained.
5) The research methods and techniques in social sciences will be discussed.
6) The research methods and techniques in communication sciences will be discussed.
7) Quantitative research methods in communication sciences will be explained.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Qualitative research methods in communication sciences will be explained.
10) Text analysis methods in print media will be discussed.
11) Text analysis methods in the visual press will be discussed.
12) Basic information will be given about the matters of analysis of film and advertising texts.
13) The examples of analysis will be made.
14) The examples of analysis will be made (Continuation of the previous lecture).
15) General overview of the course will be made.
16) Final examination
