Course Contents

Course content: The analysis of film samples from the world and Turkish cinema through sociological concepts that will be discussed every week in the context of the relationship between cinema, society and culture, and revealing this relationship through films.

Weekly Schedule

1) Introduction to the basic concepts of the course.
2) Discussion of cinema's characteristics of being the reflector and creator of society and culture.
3) The place and position of cinema as a mass media in the culture industry.
4) Film analysis through sociological concepts: Gender.
5) Film analysis through sociological concepts: Racism and Ethnic Discrimination
6) Film analysis through sociological concepts: Politics and hegemony.
7) Film analysis through sociological concepts: Poverty and social exclusion.
8) Midterm
9) Film analysis through sociological concepts: Social change.
10) Film analysis through sociological concepts: Urbanization and migration.
11) Film analysis through sociological concepts: Production and consumption patterns.
12) Film analysis through sociological concepts: Alienation and anomie.
