Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Giving a detailed account of basic cardiovascular physiology.
2) Applying this knowledge to explain cardiovascular responses to physiological and pathological changes associated with altered cardiovascular function.
3) Correlating the principles of cardiovascular and other systemic responses in health with those in common disease states.
4) Giving experience of the appropriate technical skills used in examining the operation of the cardiovascular system.

Course Contents

Candidates are provided with profound knowledge on unique characteristics of cardiac muscle, electrophysiology of the heart, cardiac function, cardiac cycle, physiology of cardiac defects (heart sounds), the normal electrocardiogram (ECG) and the ECG in cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac output and venous return, fluid dynamics, arterial pressure and the circulation, the microcirculation and lymphatics, regulation of arterial pressure, local control of blood flow, hemostasis and injury, hemorrhage, shock, coronary circulation, cerebral circulation.
