2) Explains systematically and critically the major ideologies that shape the contemporary political world.
3) Systematically and critically discusses the social implications of ideologies that extend beyond politics in the narrow sense.
4) Evaluates in depth the political and social teachings of important representatives of ideologies.
5) Compare the similarities and differences between ideologies.
6) Evaluates current political events and processes in a more qualified way in the light of their ideological background.

Course Contents

The major themes that will be covered by the course are the different conceptions of ideology, liberalism, capitalism, conservatism, anarchism, socialism, social democracy, nationalism, corporatism, fascism, democracy, totalitarianism, feminism, the debates on ‘the end of ideology’, and on the distinction between the left and the right.
