Course Contents

This course generally deals with the political, economical, socio-cultural perspective of Central Asia’s history from beginning until 10.th century and political developments during this period. And also this course deals with political structure and relations with the neighbors of the Huns, Gökturk and Uighurs.

Weekly Schedule

1) To introduce Central Asia.
2) Geographial structure about Central Asia
3) Ancient history of Central Asia (Iskits and Sarmatians) and bibliography
4) Foundation of Hun Empire and Mo-tu Ch'an-yu (BC 209-BC 141)
5) The relations between Huns and their neighoburs in the BC 3th century (Tung-hu, Ting-ling,Wu-sun, Yueh Chih, Ti, Ch'iang)
6) The sovereignty struggle between Hun and China (BC 140-101) and the excellence of China in Western Area.
7) The decline of Hun Emprire and the conflicts in Huns.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) The divide of the Huns, Northern Huns and Southern Huns
10) The collapse of Hun Empires and The Hun governments in China in AD 4th-5th centuries
11) The big invasions in Central Asia and Northern China in AD 4th-5th centuries (Hsien-pei), Tabgaç, Juan Juan, Akhun)
12) The foundation of Gokturk Government and Bibliography, the political activities of Gokturks (542-582)
13) The political, socal, economical structure of Gokturks
14) The divide of Gokturks
15) General evaluation
