Course Contents

Administrative models applied in the Middle Age states influenced states established thereafter. This course deals with the structuring governing such states, as well as government agencies and state-people relationship in a historical point of view

Weekly Schedule

1) Introduction to the course content and resources to teach.
2) The concept of the state organization.
3) Introduvtion to the medieval organization of states.
4) The concept of the ruler. Comparison in therms of the ruler concepts of medieval states.
5) The evaluation of the concept of power and the rulers of the Middle Ages.
6) The palace as the administrative center. The palace guards and palace life.
7) Divans in Eastern societies.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Military organization in medieval states.
10) The military hierarchy and military equipment.
11) The schemes and tactics of army.
12) The state organization of the Middle Ages.
13) Taxes.
14) Judicial system of the medieval states. Relationship between the state bureucracy and people.
15) Subsequent periods, the effect of the state organization of the Middle Ages.
16) Final examination.
