Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Comparing atomic and molecular structures of materials
2) Classifying materials and distinguish their differences and developing the basic for the choice of material.
3) Explaining basic information about the mechanical properties of materials, and making the necessary calculations about these features
4) Correlating the relationships between internal structures and properties of materials
5) Making the experiments where physical and mechanical properties of materials are determined
6) Describing the kinds of materials error, explaning errors that may have influences on the mechanical behavior of materials.
7) Explaining the basic concepts of phase diagrams and using phase diagrams about alloys
8) Writing the concepts of stress and strain, and solving the problems faced in this regard
9) Commenting on the properties of materials which change shape under load
10) Evaluating about the time-dependent behavior of materials
11) Explaining the properties of metals and giving examples about this properties
12) Explaining the properties of composite materials and giving examples about these properties
13) Determining the physical properties of the materials

Course Contents

This course covers atomic structure and atomic array , crystal structures, amorphous structure, solid solutions, atomic mobility and atomic diffusion, transformation and diagram of phases, mechanical behaviour of materials, strain of materials, fracture, fatigue, time dependent behaviour of materials, creep and relaxation, physical properties, metals.
