Course Contents

Explanation of concrete, concrete components and properties. Sampling methods from aggregates. Determination of the granulometry of aggregates with aggregate sieve analysis experiment. Assessment of fines of aggregates. Determination of fine and coarse aggregate particle density and water absorption. Cement specific gravity test. Determination of cement specific surface area. Cement grain size test. Determination of the standard consistency in cement. Determination of the setting time of cement. Volume stability of cement. Loss on ignition and insoluble matter tests. Determination of the mechanical properties of cement. Steel tensile test. Fresh concrete consistency tests. Determination of the amount of air voids in concrete. Determination of fresh concrete unit weight. Determination of the mechanical properties of hardened concrete. Elasticity modulus and poisson ratio tests in concrete. Freeze-thaw strength tests in concrete. Destructive and nondestructive test methods used to determine the concrete compressive strength of existing structures.

7) Production and transportation of concrete, placement and compaction of fresh concrete
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Concrete curing, cold and design of concrete in hot weather conditions
10) Compressive strength of concrete
11) Tensile strength of concrete, fatigue strength of concrete.
12) Stress - strain relations, Poisson's ratio, modulus of elasticity and shear modulus
13) Permeability of concrete
14) Time-dependent behavior, shrinkage and creep
15) Durability of concrete
16) Final examination
