Course Contents

Presentation of geotechnical laboratory instruments and general information of use about them. Determination of water content. Unit weight of soil samples. Explain of Liquid limit and Plastic limit Tests, Standard and Modified Proctor and Compaction Tests, Sieve Analysis Tests, Permeability Tests, Field Penetrometer Tests, Sand Cone Tests, Density determination, Standard Penetration Tests, Three-axial Pressure Tests, Shear Tests, California Bearing ratio test, Consolidation Tests, Field tests.

1) Introduction to geotechnical laboratory applications
2) Introduction of the laboratory and equipment
3) Determination of specific mass of soil dane
4) Mechanic and flush grain size analysis
5) Atterberg limit tests: liquid and plastic limit
6) Standard and modified proctor tests
7) Permability tests: constant head and falling head
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Field density measurement tests: sand cone method
10) Consolidation of fine grained soils
11) Unconfined compression tests
12) Identification of soil properties by Triaxial test
13) California Bearing ratio test for road materials
14) Direct shear test for soils
15) Determine the soil properties in the field using hand devices
