Introduction to Civil Engineering

Course Contents

This course covers foundation soil, excavation works, arbitration works, foundations, masonry walls, chimneys, expansion joints, insulations, stairs, escalators, elevators, ramps, roofs, tinsmith works.

Weekly Schedule

1) Syllabus of course, informing the students about course and introduction of basics civil engineering
2) Relationships between basic concepts and evaluation of concept and relations considering civil engineering
3) The concept , introduction and importance of load bearing system in civil engineering and general conditions and principles of structural design.
4) Loads and tensions exerted on load bearing system
5) Development and classification of load bearing system. Introduction of traditional load bearing system and its elements
6) Introduction, development and classification of contemporary load bearing systems
7) Traditional structure examples
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Introduction, development and classification of orthotropic systems and buildings constructed with load bearing system
10) Slabs, shell examples
11) Introduction of space frame systems and types
12) Introduction, development and classification of suspended tensioned systems and its elements
13) Examples of tensioned suspended membrane systems
14) Introduction, development and examples of pneumatic systems. General evaluation
