GEOPHYSICAL METHODS IN GEOTERMAL EXPOLARATION

Course Contents

This course covers;physical definitions, concepts of heat and temperature, the heat transfers, heat flow, thermal conductivity measurement, measuring temperature gradient, calculation of heat flow, affecting factors the heat flow, geothermal fields, thermal model of the space inside, comparison of heat measurement in continents and oceans and regional investigation and causes of change, the convection currents, heat equation (one dimensional), temperature in Earth's geological era, the regional distribution of heat flow, heat transfer of the earth, today belongs to the configuration change of temperature with depth case studies, the heat flow measurements and changes in the world and Turkey.

Weekly Schedule

1) Physical definitions
2) Thermal evolution of the earth and the present position of internal temperature
3) Heat sources and heat transfer and thermal structure of plates
4) Measuring temperature gradient and introduce the subject of studies
5) Thermal conductivity measurement and factors affecting the thermal conductivity
6) Calculation of heat flow, factors affecting the heat flow
7) Temperature corrections and applications of subject
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Comparison of heat measurement in continents and oceans, regional investigation and causes of change
10) The heat flow measurements and changes in the world and Turkey
11) Heat equation (one dimensional) and solutions
12) Thermal modeling of space inside ,Calculation of melting temperature
13) Today, the temperature variation with depth and applications
14) Introduction of the current work on the ground temperature
