Course Contents

This course covers;definition of geophyscs, the main branches of geophysics and the meaning and English translation of the related terms, definition of seismology and related English terms, definition of earth physics and related English term, definition of applied geophysics and related English terms, methods in geophysics and translated paragraphs related on these subjects: Gravity method, magnetic method, electric method, seismic method, rezistivity method.

1) Definition of geophyscs, the main branches of geophysics and the meaning and English translation of the related terms.
2) Definition of seismology, most common words of seismology and related English terms
3) Translation of a paragraph on earthquakes.
4) Translation of a paragraph on soil amplification.
5) Translation of a paragraph on tsunamis
6) Translation of a paragraph on Seismic Hazard
7) Definition of Earth Physics which is a branch of Geophysics and related English terms
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Translation a paragraph on the layers of earth
10) Translation a paragraph on the Earth’s magnetic field
11) Translation a paragraph on the effects of convection currents in the earth.
12) Definition of Applied geophysics, most common words og applied geophysics and related English terms
13) Translation a paragraph on seismic reflection and seismic refraction
14) Translation paragraphs on the measurements of apllied geophysics and related methods: Resistivity, Self potential, Induced potential, wenner, Schlumberger, dipol-dipol
15) Translation a paragraph on gravity methods
16) Final examination
