Course Contents

This course covers; ground penetrating radar (GPR) history, various types of radar, ground penetrating radar, various types of GPR, companies , maxwell equations , electromagnetic wave equations, EM spectrum, penetration depth , system design, loss, velocity of EM wave, modeling (Forward solution), 1D modeling, finite difference (FD) method, FD method for solution of 2D EM wave equation, radargrams for different earth model, properties of materials, EM wave behavior in dielectric materials , dielectric properties of rock and soil, antennas , types of antennas, modulation techniques, Software for GP, data processing, zero offset, vow, devow, Noise reduction with some filters , gain, filtering in frequency domain, deconvolution, migration, application, determination of permafrost thickness, some environmental problems, some geological problems, GPR application in Archaeology, application of road, concrete, tunnel and UXO application.

4) Forward solution, One dimensional modelling, Finite difference method
5) The solution of 2 Dimensional EM wave equation with finite difference method -Radagrams for various models
6) Properties of material, EM waves behavior in dielectric material, Dielectric properties of soil and rocks, Measurement of dielectric properties of material in the lab
7) Antenas, Types of Antenas, Techniques of modulation
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Introduction to GPR software and Application of GPR software
10) Data processing, Removal of zero-offset, Moving avarage and error reduction, Gain application with time dependence, Filtering in frequency domain, Deconvolution, and Migration
