Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Recognize the working fields of geology
2) Distinguish the origin of the Universe, the formation of the Solar System, the history of the Earth, the origin and evolution of life
3) Recognize the dynamics of the Earth's inner and outer
4) Recognize the description and origin of earth materials (minerals and rocks)
5) Recognize basic geologic structures, including the development of folds, faults and foliation
6) Define the theory of plate tectonics and relate to the effects of orogenesis and earthquakes on the built environment
7) Recognize integration of atmospheric, oceanographic, geological and biological concepts with an historical perspective to introduce the major processes that have shaped Earth's environment
8) Recognize climatic processes on geological time scales; the evolution of organisms; the cycling of elements; the feedbacks between these processes
