Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Recognizing methods of sample selection, preparation and etching for metallographic investigations.
2) Recognizing light microscope, contrast generation by light photons and contrast techniques.
3) Explaining macro and microstructure investigations.
4) Explaining microstructure examination of steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals and alloys.
5) Describing quantitative metallography (Image Analysis).
6) Recognizing electron microscopes (SEM, TEM, PEEM) and imaging techniques using electrons.
7) Recognizing analysis techniques using X-Rays (XRD, XRF, EDX and WDX).
8) Recognizing thermal analysis methods (DTA, TGA, DSC, dilatometry).
