Course Contents

Media, features, operation, field of communications regulation, mainstream and critical approaches to media literacy, media literacy practices in the world and in Turkey

Weekly Schedule

1) Course introduction and explanation of basic concepts
2) Media, both traditional and new media, and the media in the globalization process
3) Communication systems: an authoritarian system, the liberal system
4) Communication systems: social responsibility approach, the developmental model
5) Communication Systems: the totalitarian model, to participating democratic model approach to citizen journalism
6) The reasons for the field of communications regulation, principles and methods.
7) The concept of literacy and media literacy.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) The historical development of media literacy activities.
10) Mainstream approaches to media literacy.
11) Critical approaches to media literacy.
12) Media literacy education practices in the world.
13) Media literacy practices in Turkey.
14) Turkey to discuss problems and solutions related to the implementation of media literacy
15) Critical approaches to media literacy in order to implement the recommendations creation and discussion
