Course Contents

Measurement in physics; motion in one and two dimensions and its types; force and torque, static (equilibrium) and dynamics (Newton's laws of motion), universal gravitation; work, power, energy; simple machines; pressure, buoyancy; impulse and momentum. Kinematics and dynamics of rotational motion, simple harmonic motion. Basic concepts of static electricity, Coulomb and Gauss's laws, potential and potential energy in point charges; capacitors; electric current and its basic concepts, direct current circuits, Kirchhoff's laws; magnetic field and magnetic force, Ampere's law, Faraday's induction law, Lenz's law, self-induction, magnetic field energy, alternating current generators, electric motors, transformers; Heat and temperature, thermal properties of matter, laws of thermodynamics; structure, speed and sources of light; illumination, reflection and mirrors; refraction and lenses, optical instruments; waves, basic concepts in wave motion and open and closed-ended experiments on these subjects.
