Course Contents

The definition and importance of language; the relation between language and culture; language in its written form and its features; the structure and principles of written composition; principles of spelling and punctuation marks; outlining; the main idea, the controlling idea and supporting sentences in written composition; writing a paragraph; the concept of composition; the principles of composition; writing a composition; analyzing the outline, the main idea and the paragraph with the help of outhentic exracts in Turkish; proofreading and editing compositions; thinking and expressing what you think; various text types (memoir, anecdote, story, critique, novel, etc.), formal writing (curriculum vitae, petition, report, advertisement, bibliography, notification, essay, etc.); studying how to write the introductory, develepmental and concluding parts of the essay; studying how to write essays; the methods and techniques of note-taking and summarrizing.
