Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) At the end of this course, the student; 1. will identify various structures, expressions and words used in different contexts in a foreign language. Student,1.1. identifies various structures used in everyday discourse for different purposes 1.2. defines various expressions and compound words in everyday discourse 1.3. determines the necessary strategies to find structures, expressions and words appropriate for different purposes. 1.4. defines who is speaking, in what context, and for what purpose in everyday foreign language discourse
2) The student will analyze various structures, expressions and words used in different contexts in a foreign language. 2.1. exemplifies how different expressions, structures and words are used in accordance with the context. 2.2. Uses various expressions, structures and words accurately and fluently within the framework of daily discourse, in accordance with the given purposes. 2.3. analyzes how different people achieve the desired meaning by using various expressions, structures and words
3) The student will analyze various speaking and listening texts on different topics. 3.1. analyzes the strategies required for effective listening and speaking. 3.2. questions how people in foreign cultures use certain expressions, structures and words. 3.3. compares how people express themselves in daily discourse in a foreign culture and in their own culture. 3.4. compares his/her own culture with foreign culture 3.5. compares his/her own performance with that of classmates during storytelling, role-playing and presentations 3.6. relates his/her own experiences during oral communication to various communication contexts in a foreign language.

Course Contents

Developing the ability to communicate verbally using appropriate expressions and strategies for various verbal communication situations; developing the ability to express feelings and thoughts effectively through conversation, individual presentations, discussion activities and various interactive activities; developing communication skills in formal and informal contexts; developing informative and persuasive presentation skills; developing speaking and listening skills by using up-to-date, authentic, auditory and audio-visual materials.
