1) Recognise three major components of fine architecture, as stated by Vitrivius, durability-firmness, serving aimed function, and beautifulness.
2) Recognise art through ages, and objects of arts in chronological sequence.
3) Identify art and architecture as a form of art.
4) Correlate the evolution of art styles are interrelated with the socio-ecomics and politics of the society.
5) Correlate the ability of interregional and chronological development of art styles.

Course Contents

Emphasizing the relationship between architecture and aesthetics through its relation between other arts. Developing a sense of grasping, sensitivity and aesthetic appriciation towards works of art through introducing examples of the evolution of arts throughout history. Introducing an aesthetic approach towards shape and content in architectural projects.

2) Relation of architecture with other art media
3) Caves as accommodation in prehistoric period and cave paintings.
4) Egyptian Art. Art of the Aegean World in Bronze Age: the Cyclads. Art of Minonian Culture. Art of Hittites represented in Alacahöyük and reliefs of Yazılıkaya.
5) Greek Art, sculpture and painting.
6) Roman art, sculpture, painting and mosaics.
7) Art of Early Medieval Age: fresco, funeral reliefs and mosaics.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Byzantine Art
10) European Medieval Art, Romanesque and Gothic Art
11) Socio-economic and political conditions prepared setting for the philosophy and emergence of Rennaisance.
12) Rennaisance in Italy
13) Rennaisance in Northern Europe.
14) Review of art movements covered in the course.
15) A general evaluation of the subjects covered in the course.
