Course Contents

Historical development of instructional technologies. Importance of instructional technology in communication process. Instrucitonal materials. Properties of the materials used in education. Designing materials based on the learning outcomes. Preparing instructional materials by using computer technology.

Weekly Schedule

1) Explanation of foundational concepts about instructional technologies.
2) Characteristics of modern instructional technologies (IT), place and the use of IT in the process of teaching.
3) Identifying the technolgy needs of school and the classroom, technology planning and its applications, the level of the use of IT in Turkey and in the world.
4) Visual design elements and principles, planning development of two - three dimentional teaching materials through technology.
5) Factors affecting teachers' selection of teaching-and learning materials.
6) Development of instructional materials (concept maps, cognitive maps, work-sheets, activity design, over-head transparancies, slides, visual media (VCD, DVD) materials, computer based mateials).
7) Evaluation of educational software, and theoretical information about evaluation of various instructional materials.
8) Midterm exam.
9) The use of internet in education, and benefits of distance education.
10) Developing overhead transparancies and presentations.
11) Discussion and evaluations of student developed and presented overhead transparancies.
12) Designing and developing work-sheets, two - three dimensional teaching and learning materials and presentations.
13) 2'nd.Midterm Exam/Evaluations and discussions about student developed and presented (work-sheets, two - three dimensional) teaching and learning materials.
14) Development of computer based instructional materials (power-point, movie maker etc) and presentation.
15) Evaluation of presented computer based instructional materials.
