Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Develops improved novel cultivars with high yield and quality, resistant to pests, diseases and unfavourable climate conditions via breeding approaches
2) Has knowledge in breeding grapes, fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants both in theory and, in practice; is aware of the importance and management of genetic resources.
3) Using biotechnological approaches, may produce, propogate and breed plants
4) Takes initiative in identifying problems in the field, reaching to a decision and solving problems
5) . Does consultancy and expertise on growing, breeding, propogation, physiology and postharvest storage of grapes, fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants.

History of breeding, definition, objectives, flower and fertizilation biology, sterility, incompatibilities, mutation breeding and polyploidi, genetic engineering, clonal selection, molecular markers, F1 hybrid breeding, selection breeding, combination breeding and backcross breeding
