Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Explains the cell cycle and its regulation.
2) Defines Mendelian rules, correlation of Mendelian rules with chromosomes, probability rules in genetics and statistical analysis, pedigree trees.
3) Explains gender-related inheritance, sexlimited inheritance and sex-effect inheritance.
4) Defines mitotic recombination and sister chromatid changes, linkage analysis in haploid organisms, somatic cell hybridization, and chromosome mapping.
5) Explains population genetics, population and gene pools, allele frequency and calculation, Hardy-Weinberg law and its application.

Course Contents

This course covers below topics; Introduction to genetics and basic genetic concepts (phenotype, genotype, chromosome, gene and allel concepts, chromosomes, karyotype) Mendelian genetics and inheritance pathways Monohybrid, dihybrid and trihybrid inheritance, Cell Division (mitosis, meiosis) Extensions of Mendelian inheritance, incomplete dominance, codominance, inheritance of multiple alleles and blood groups, lethal genes, epistasis, linkage and mapping, extranuclear inheritance, sexual chromosomes, sex-linked inheritance, chromosome mutations quantitative inheritance, population genetics.
