This course covers below topics; Definition, economic importance and historical development of seed pathology, general characteristics of seed-borne pathogens, their symptoms in seeds and their location in seeds, mechanism of seed infection, ways of transmission and propagation of seed-borne pathogens, identification of seed pathogens, measures that can be taken against seed pathogens

Weekly Schedule

1) The importance and history of seed pathology, seed-borne and seed-borne pathogens and changes in seed
2) Seed structure and damage to seeds and disease
3) Seed-borne pathogens seen in important cultivated plants and their distribution by plant species
4) Seed infection routes and seed infection mechanism
5) Factors affecting seed infection
6) The survival time of pathogens in seeds and the factors that change this
7) Spreading and epidemic situations of seed-borne pathogens
8) Factors affecting transmission of pathogens by seeds
9) Methods used in the diagnosis of seed-borne fungi
10) Methods used in the diagnosis of seed-borne bacteria
11) Methods used in the diagnosis of seed-borne viruses
12) Control of seed-borne pathogens (legal measures, physical methods, mechanical applications, biological control)
13) Control of seed borne pathogens (seed applications, formulation types used, methods and fungicides)
