Course Contents

.Organology, its scope and its history. Instrument Classification Systems: Chinese system 8th century BC, Indian system 1st century AD, Arabic systems in 10-11th century, European classification systems in 19th and 20th century Mahillon, Hornbostel-Sachs Instrument Classification Systems. Musical Instruments of Ancient Cultures: Mesopotamia, Anatolia, Egypt, Instruments in Europe in the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, the instruments in the Symphonic Orchestra and the development of orchestra. Instruments in contemporary cultures: South East Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Central Asia, Anatolia, Europe, Africa, North and South America.
