Universal Motors; Construction, Properties, Principles of Operation, Characteristics, Employments. Starting and Speed Control of Universal Motors. Direction Changing. Stepper Motors; Construction, Properties, Operating Principles, Characteristics, Employments. Stepper Motors Drives and their Applications. Servo Motors and Systems; Construction, Properties, Operating principles, Characteristics, Employments. Servo Motors Types: DC Servo Motors, AC Servo Motors, Linear Servo Motors. Servo Motor Drives and their Applications. Special Machines; Permanent Magnet (PM) Motors, Brushless Motors, Linear Electrical Machines.

Weekly Schedule

1) Structure features and application areas
2) Operation prinsiple of universal motor and reversing direction, speed control of universal motor
3) Stepper motor and its types, basic structure, features and application areas Drives techniques used for stepper motors (Bipolar and unipolar drives)
4) Servo motors, classification of servo motor and drivers, general structure of servo sytems
5) Dynamic model of DC servo motor, and structure of a adjustable speed drive control system, current speed and position control
6) DC servo motors ve servo drivers (Linear, PWM and SCR controlled drivers)
7) General structure of AC servo systems, AC servo motors, technical features and application fields
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) AC servo motors (two phase an permenant magnet type servos)
10) Speed and torque characteristics of induction motor, transformation of three phase variables to two-phase variable, and dynamik model of induction motor
11) Variable speed drive control methods of induction motor speed control with slip-frequency change and its applications
12) Scalar or v/f control, Open loop and closed loop scalar control of induction motor
13) Vector control or Field oriented control principle, structure of vector controlled induction motor driver system and block diagram
14) Voltage sourse inverters, operation principle and PWM techniques, desinging a current controller
15) Current speed and torque control in vector controlled drive system
16) Final examination
