3) Describe the structure and determination method of hemoglobin.
4) Describe smear, stain and examine of peripheral blood.
5) Explain red blood cell, granulocyte, lymphocyte and platelet morphology changes and the diseases they appeared in.
6) Explain the mechanisms of primary and secondary hemostasis.
7) Describe the mechanisms of blood groups and transfusion reactions.
8) Classify the anemias.

Course Contents

Introduction to hematology. Function and composition of blood. Blood counting methods, Specimen collection. Erythrocyte development. Bone marrow aspiration, Abnormality in production or destruction of red cells. Erythrocyte index. Reticulocytes. Hemoglobin determination. Structure of hemoglobin. Hemoglobinopathies. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Serologic tests. Development of white blood cells. Differential counting. Abnormality of leukocyte. Leukocytes and virus disease. Leucocytes and malignancy. Hemostasis and coagulation. Blood Groups and technique for typing. Bleeding disorders due to different factors.
