Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral or vertical transfer student admission is carried out basing on the "The Transfer Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees, Double Majors, Sub-specialties and Credit Transfer Regulations among Institutions". The prior learning of transfer students is recognized as per the relevant regulations of Council of Higher Education and under the coordination of the Adaptation Committee.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of non-formal and informal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Program Competencies

• 1) creates a safe laboratory environment in accordance with the legislation regarding Medical Laboratory services and employee health and occupational safety principles and takes/takes duty at the workplace.
• Prepares a work program in accordance with the work and task instructions in the laboratory, checks the consumables to be used daily, completes the deficiencies and ensures that the necessary precautions are taken by informing the relevant people.
• Calibrates the test devices used in the laboratory, ensures internal and external quality control of the tests performed, and assumes individual responsibility for tasks and processes. When necessary, informs managers and officials to correct problems and deficiencies.
• During or after laboratory analyses, when necessary, informs the authorized specialist physician or the patient or their relatives and conveys the results to the specialist physician regarding the diagnostic process.
• Ensures effective professional communication and cooperation with unit employees in the laboratory, and reports possible malfunctions and other problems to relevant units and/or authorized experts in a timely manner.
• It checks the patient material sent to the laboratory and accepts or rejects the relevant samples using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS/PIMS, etc.) where analysis requests are written. It takes samples from people applying to the laboratory when necessary and in accordance with the procedure, initiates appropriate examination procedures, and informs the specialist physician about the process and results.
• It records the materials sent to the laboratory in the LIMS, numbers the samples and prepares them for analysis
• In accordance with the diseased material type and working principles, prepares and stains the preparations when necessary and with the appropriate method, and informs the specialist physician to evaluate the results.
• Makes auto-analyzers and other necessary devices ready for operation in the laboratory. After the study, it makes the relevant devices and materials ready for the next study and analysis.
• Prepares solutions, reagents and dyes for tests used in different Medical Laboratories such as Microbiology, Parasitology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Hematology, Serology and Blood Bank. Applies Molecular Biological and/or Genetic tests used in these fields and performs hormone analyses.
• Checks the analysis results in the laboratory, reports panic values when necessary, and submits the test results to expert approval. It makes statistics of laboratory results within certain periods and in accordance with the relevant legislation and ensures that they are delivered to the relevant units.
• It stores the patient materials sent to the Medical Laboratory under appropriate conditions, and ensures that the tested samples and medical waste are removed from the laboratory under appropriate conditions in accordance with the relevant legislation. Takes biosecurity measures against possible risks and dangers and ensures that they are taken.
• It submits the results regarding Notifiable Diseases to expert approval and ensures that they are delivered to the necessary institutions and units in a timely manner in accordance with national and/or international legislation.
• Communicates well and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with patients or their relatives, colleagues and managers during the Medical Laboratory analysis process. Complies with professional ethical principles in health communication and information sharing.
• Knows the legal rights and responsibilities regarding the Medical Laboratory Technician and gives priority to professional and ethical principles in working life.
• He/She directs the auxiliary staff to carry out Medical Laboratory studies in orderly and sterile conditions, takes care of the education of the interns in his unit and helps them gain skills. It provides them with corporate culture and work experience with awareness of professional responsibility and exemplary behavior.
• It monitors the necessary scientific activities (seminars, workshops, panels, etc.) and current publications, technological developments in order to learn scientific and technical innovations related to the field of profession, and provides in-service training, on-the-job training, etc. to increase professional experience. participates in activities.
• Knows the effects of accurate and safe analysis results on health services and public health, and their contribution to the health economy. It prioritizes the continuity of qualified and efficient laboratory services and assumes ethical responsibilities in this field.
• He/She knows that qualified laboratory diagnostic procedures, disease monitoring, screening, notification results and patient information are of "strategic value" in healthcare services. Knows that protecting patient rights during the work process is within the scope of "health information security" and ethical responsibility, and takes the necessary precautions on the subject.
• It is the responsibility of participating in current professional training and "being prepared" in order to take part in the healthcare team and contribute to possible crisis management in Extraordinary Events (earthquake, climate change and extreme weather events, epidemics, pandemic outbreaks, etc.).
