1) Capability to make a modal analysis of electromagnetic fields in closed waveguides using Maxwell's equations
2) Capability to simplify field analysis in closed waveguides using the relation between transverse and longitudinal fields in the context of guided waves.
3) Capability to analyze current excited waveguide problems
4) Acquisition of preliminary knowledge to analyze open boundary (optical) waveguides
5) Capability to apply perturbation technique for closed waveguides.

Consequences of the real time function postulate. Reciprocity theorem. Relation between transverse and longitudinal fields. Propagation constant –Low loss approximation. Mode orthogonality. Modal expansion of waveguide fields. Current excitation of waveguides. Modes of open boundary waveguides. Perturbation theory for waveguides. Ferrites. Field theory for resonators. Periodic wave guides.
