Course Contents

This course provides candidates with profound knowledge on wear and importance of wear, industrial wear mechanisims, effecting parameters on wear, wear testing methods, examination of worn surfaces, wear resistant materials, surface engineering in tribology, thermochemical processes in tribology, thermal spraying in tribology.

Weekly Schedule

1) Introduction towear; Definition of wear, economic importance of wear
2) Tribological system
3) Surface topography, surfaces in contact, friction.
4) Industrial wear mechanisims; abrasive wear, sliding wear, tribochemical wear and surface fatigue.
5) Industrial wear mechanisims; abrasive wear, sliding wear, tribochemical wear and surface fatigue.
6) Effecting parameters on wear; Design properties, operating conditions, characteristic of abrasive particle, material properties.
