Course Contents

The construction industry and building economics, features of the construction industry, the role of construction industry in domestic economy, market properties of construction industry, building supply and demand, competitive problems in building market, production theory, appropriate use of resources in construction, procurement approaches of construction companies, competitive advantage of Turkish construction industry in domestic and international market will be the focus of study. A general review and architectural approach to project preparation economics and cost management in architectural offices and project preparation economics, cost management and quality management in construction companies will be performed. Cost management and quality management techniques, case-site studies and workshops will be used as practice.

1) Giving information about the content of the course.
2) What is economics? What is construction economics?
3) Construction industry and construction economics, features of the construction industry.
4) Relation of architecture and construction economics. Construction industry in domestic economy (research).
5) Market properties in construction industry. Supply and demand in construction. Competitive problems in building market.
6) Phases of preparing architectural projects and the definition and importance of construction industry (seminar).
7) Production theory, appropriate use of resources in construction.Procurement approaches of construction companies.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) The phases of a construction project (Pre-design, Design, Tender, Construction, Closing, Maintenance). Project design process in architectural offices and construction companies.
10) Competitive advantage of Turkish construction industry in domestic and international market.
11) A general review and architectural approach to project construction economics, cost management and quality management in architectural offices (seminar).
12) A general review and architectural approach to project construction economics, cost management and quality management in construction companies.
13) The importance of and basic knowledge about time and cost management in project and construction management (research).
