Amaç Son dönemlerde hem ülkemizde hem de dünyada mimarlık mesleğinin ve mimarlık eğitiminin sorgulandığı tartışma ortamlarından elde edilen genel değerlendirmelere göre mimarlık alanında var olan 4 yıllık lisans eğitiminin mesleki biçimleniş ve yetkinlik için yeterli olmadığı görülmektedir. Bölüm politikası gereği, akademik kariyer ve uzmanlaşmaya yönelik iki yıllık yüksek lisans programları katkısıyla ,bu hizmetten yararlanacak olanların atölyeler ve uzmanlık dersleri aracılığıyla mevcut sorunlar üzerinde düşünce üretebilen yeni ve etkin mimar tipine dönüştürülmesini amaçlamakta, bunun yanı sıra, Kocaeli’ne dair yerel sorunların merkeze alınarak ulusal ve uluslar arası problemlere mimari yaklaşımlar geliştirilmesi ve bu doğrultuda gerekli bağlantı ve iletişimlerin kurularak kentsel gelişime destek sağlanması hedeflenmektedir. Kabul Koşulları Yüksek lisans programına başvurabilmek için; mimarlık lisans diplomasına sahip olmak ve Akademik Lisansüstü Eğitim Sınavı’ndan başvurduğu programın puan türünde en az 55 standart puan veya GRE ya da GMAT sınavlarından eşdeğer bir puan almış olmak gerekir. Adayların, İngilizce/Fransızca/Almanca dillerinden herhangi biri için geçerli ulusal veya uluslararası dil sınavlarından üniversitenin belirleyeceği en az taban puana eş değer puanı almış olması gerekir. Başvuru koşullarını sağlayan adaylar arasından, mülakat yapılarak güz ve bahar yarıyılları başında öğrenci alınır. Adayların başvuru işlemleri, Fen Bilimleri Enstitü Müdürlüğü tarafından yürütülür. Mülakata gelirken öğrencilerden yanlarında akademik ve/veya uygulamaya yönelik çalışmalarını içeren bir dosya(portfolio) getirmeleri istenir. Başvurduğu programın puan türünden Akademik Lisansüstü Eğitim Sınav puanının veya GRE/GMAT puanının % 50’si, lisans mezuniyet not ortalamasının % 20’si ve mülakat notunun % 30’u değerlendirmede dikkate alınır. Adayın başarılı sayılabilmesi için, başarı değerlendirmesi/notunun en az 60 olması gerekir. Mülakat notu, 60’ın altında olan adaylar başarısız kabul edilir. Uluslararası öğrenciler, Yükseköğretim Kurulu tarafından belirlenen kurallar çerçevesinde uluslararası geçerliliği olan sınavlarla kabul edilmektedir. Değişim öğrencilerinin programa kabulü ikili anlaşmalar çerçevesinde yapılmakta ve Uluslararası İlişkiler Birimince yürütülmektedir. In order to apply to MS.c programme, it is required to hold a bachelor degree in Architecture and get 55 standard grade from ALES (Examination for Post-graduate Education) or equivalent grade from GMAT and GRE exams. Candidates are obliged to get minimum base grade from national or international examinations of English/ French/ German languages, which is determined by university. Students who fulfill the application requirements are accepted by oral interview at the beginning of fall and spring semesters. The process of application of candidates are performed by Faculty of Sciences. Candidates are required to bring potfolio including workouts of academic and/or practice. %50 of academic postgrade education exam or GRE/GMAT grade, %20 of bachelor graduate grade and %30 of oral interview grade are considered in evaluation of applied programme. Candidates are obliged to have an attainment evaluation grade of minimum 60 to be assigned as succeeding. Candidates, the oral interview grade of whom are under 60 are assigned as failed. International students are accepted via the examinations which are available within the framework of international regulations, determined by High Education Council. The acceptance of transition students to programme is accomplished within the framework of dual agreements and performed by international association agency. The acceptance of national student is performed by Farabi Exchange programme and international student acceptance is performed by student affairs presidency.

Upon a successful completion of the program, graduates can continue their academic studies at doctorate programs in the related fields of study on condition that they get the required score from related test parts of ALES (Examination for Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education), GMAT or GRE, and providing that they certify their foreign language proficiency through central or internationally valid examinations such as TOEFL,YDS,etc.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation of a course during the semester include instruments such as; projects, seminars, presentations, field work, quizzes, assignments, practice, laboratory. The contribution of these studies range between 30% and 70% and students are informed prior to enrollment. Midterm exams and final exams are conducted on the dates as specified in the academic calendar. Students' achievement scores is determined on the basis of midterm exam, final exam grades and attendance with the work carried out. It is required to For the first time to enter the student's final assessment and evaluation of at least 70% of the registered theoretical courses, practical and / or laboratory courses must have participated in at least 80%. Absent students do not fulfill this condition (D) grade is given. These conditions must be met in the case of repetition of a course. But once more the repetition of the theoretical course shall not be required if the condition continues. At the beginning of the term can be defined as a course of study lasting.
