1) Evaluate visual material on the various basis.
2) Define the concepts and terminology of visual semiotics.
3) Explain various symbols, signs, icons within the communicational and linguistic base depending on the originated discipline.
4) Develop a general knowlede about mythological symbols and icons.
5) Recognize the major theories of semiotics with its theoreticians.

Course Contents

This course introduces students to the semiotic analysis methods used in communication sciences, the major semoitic theories and theorists (Peirce, Saussure, Propp, Barthes, Kristeva, Eco, Derrida, Sebeok, Jacobson, Morris, Hjemslev, Mucorovsky, Buyssens, Cassirer, Levi- Strauss, Bakhtin, Todorov, Ricoeur, Martinet, Eyhembaum), iconology and iconography.

7) Language and communication relations of various visuals such as symbols, icons, signs

10) Analysis of symbols used in visual media in cultures around the world
