Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Discuss the movements and concepts of drama through the initial examples of American drama which are reflected in the works of playwrights such as Eugene O'Neill, Lillian Hellman, Arthur Miller,Tennessee Williams , Edward Albee, LeRoi Jones (I.A.Baraka), and August Wilson.
2) Develop awareness, understanding and knowledge of performance and contextual issues in American drama in the twentieth century
3) Analyze theoretical, critical and reading skills in such diverse areas as identity, gender, class, race and the American Dream
4) Develop skills in writing analytical essays
5) Evaluate and analyze primary and secondary materials within the context of the specific themes, issues and plays critically
