| Misyon | İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı'nın misyonu İngiliz dili ve edebiyatı hakkında derinlikli bir birikime sahip uzmanlar yetiştirmek, bu derinlikli bilgi birikimini, olguları eleştirel bir gözle ele alabilecekleri, çözümleyebilecekleri ve bu haliyle içerisinde yaşadıkları topluma aktarabilecekleri şekilde kullanabilmenin yollarını bulabilmelerini sağlamaktır. | Misyon (İngilizce) | The principal aim of the department is to enable students to have the opportunity to study and analyse various literary and critical pieces by taking courses in four major literary genres. In addition to carrying out generic analysis, students are also encouraged to examine the social context and to trace the historical, cultural and philosophical background reflected in the works. Apart from literature and culture courses, the department also offers courses in linguistics and translation studies to increase students’ language competency and awareness. | Kabul Koşulları | ALES Sınav Puanı(en az 50) İngilizce Yeterlik, İkinci Yabancı Dil (orta, 50/100), Alan Bilgisi, Lisans derecesi | Kabul Koşulları (İngilizce) | So as to be admitted to the program, candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree from relevant fields of study. The bachelor’s degrees granted from universities other than Turkey shall be approved by the Council of Higher Education. Applicants must get a minimum score of 50 from the related test parts of ALES (Examination for Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education) or equivalent grade from GMAT or GRE exams, and must have proficiency in English Language, must have a minimum score of 50 from YDS (Governmental Foreign Language Proficiency Test) or an equivalent grade from TOEFL, IELTS, CEFLE, ZDF for Second Foreign Language. The applicants who fulfill the requirements above are conducted an exam by the institute. The admission quota is specified at the beginning of each semester by the Institute of Social Sciences. |

| Genel Bilgi | Batı Dilleri ve Edebiyatları lisans ve yüksek lisans programları Batı, özellikle İngiliz kültürüne özgü edebiyat, tarih, felsefe, din, sanat, siyaset ve toplumsal yaşamı incelemek için tasarlanmıştır. Dersler öğrencileri yalnızca köklü edebi ve kültürel gelenekler hakkında değil, aynı zamanda çağdaş popüler kültür ve eleştirel teori alanlarında da bilgi sağlamaya yönelik multidisipliner çalışmaya yönlendirmeyi amaçlamaktır. Ayrıca öğrenciler okuma, dinleme, yazma ve konuşma becerilerini ilerletmek için uygun hale getirilmiş dersler alarak İngilizce yeterliliklerini geliştirme fırsatı bulacakları Hazırlık Programı’na tabi tutulmaktadırlar. Bölümümüze kayıt yaptıran bütün öğrenciler Hazırlık Programı Muafiyet Sınavı’na girmek zorundadırlar. Bölümün, İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı ve Alman Dili ve Edebiyatı olmak üzere iki anabilin dalı vardır. Bölüm, öğrencilerin dört temel edebi türe ait edebi ve eleştirel metinleri inceleyip araştırabilecekleri donanıma kavuşmalarını ve buna ek olarak, inceledikleri metinlerin sosyal bağlamı, tarihsel, kültürel ve felsefi ardalanını araştırmalarını ve bunun esere yansıyış şeklini ele almalarını sağlamaktır. Bölümün diğer bir misyonu da öğrencilere dilbilim ve çeviri alanlarında da İngilizce’nin inceliklerini öğreterek kendilerini bu alanlarda geliştirmelerini teşvik etmektir. Ayrıca bölümde öğrencilerin araştırma ve bilimsel çalışma yöntemini öğrenmeleri için retorik ve araştırma teknikleri dersleri de verilmektedir. Recognition of Prior Learning
Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.
Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.
Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
For graduation, students are expected to successfully complete with a general graduation degree of 2.00 out of 4.00, in accordance with regualations of the university, a total of 28 ECTS of compulsory department courses, as well as an MA thesis. The success of the students are measured through either projects or takehomes, and examinations from time to time
