Course Contents

New media and new media environments will be defined and different characteristics from traditional media will be exemplified. The developments in digital and social media, communication, new media studies, the relationship between culture, media and society will be explained. The concept of digital generation, identity representations and its relationship with new media will be examined. Producing and using content in new media environments and identity representations in new media environments will be discussed.

2) What are new media and new media environments? Characteristics of new media: digitality, interactiveness, hypertextuality, multimedia stylisticity, sense of virtuality/presence, diffusion, user-derived content production
3) What are the differences between Traditional media and New media? What is digital culture and network society?
4) Some discussion focuses on new media: identity, identity exercise, socialization, virtual community concepts
5) presentation/performance of self, networked public/networked public and networked individual/self, virtual body, avatar etc. A general introduction to which concepts and how to deal with which perspectives.
