Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Correct Vocalisation of Letters: The student recognises and vocalises the letters of the Arabic alphabet correctly.
2) Learning Word Structure and Pronunciation: The student learns the structure and types of Arabic words and develops correct pronunciation.
3) Correct Understanding of Sentence Structure: The student reads and understands the words correctly according to their position in the sentence (Nahiv science).
4) Learning the original phrases and expressions of the Arabic language: The student recognises and uses the idioms and forms of expression specific to the Arabic language.
5) Developing the ability to utilise classical Arabic sources: The student develops the ability to make use of classical Arabic texts and understands and interprets these texts.

Ancient and Medieval Arabic Literature Texts Pre-Islamic period poetry and prose examples The main features of pre-Islamic Arabic literature Abbasid and Umeyyâd period literary works Medieval and Renaissance Texts The works of philosophers and writers such as Ibn Sina, Al-Jahiz, Al-Ma'arri The emergence and development of literary movements Modern and Contemporary Arabic Literature Texts The works of modern writers such as El-Sa'davi, Nagib Mahfuz, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar The main features and movements of modern Arabic literature Language Features and Literary Techniques Grammar and syntax features of Arabic language Use of literary arts and rhetorical techniques Theme and Expression Analysis in Texts Identification and analysis of the main themes of the texts Examination of narrative techniques and style Social, Cultural and Historical Context Understanding the social, cultural and historical context of the period in which the texts were written The importance and impact of texts in this context.
