Course Contents

This course makes students familiar with the text analysis of movies, novels, poetry and painting examples and their relations with the social changes.

Weekly Schedule

1) Students will be informed about the objectives and the content of the course.
2) Halbwachs and Assman's memory theories are discussed.
3) Information about the relationship between space and memory.
4) Memory and it's connection with history, sosyology and cultural life.
5) Certain principles of remembering and forgetting. Different approachs to the subject of various disciplines from antiquity to the present day.
6) Shared memory and cinema: Cinematic image as a shared memory product.
7) Cinema and memory relationship. Examples about the subject.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Analyzing a movie-I
10) Analyzing a movie-II
11) Analyzing a movie-III
12) Student presentation (Group 1).
13) Student presentation (Group 2).
14) Student presentation (Group 3).
15) General Review.
16) Final examination
