Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Recognize the roles of mass media in shaping political behavior and political communication practices.
2) List which strategies should be applied to achieve effective results in political election campaigns.
3) Explains the actors and how political communication strategies are determined in the political communication process, target audience distinction and voter analysis.
4) In the light of examples from the world and Turkey in political election campaign recognizes successful and unsuccessful election campaigns.
5) Recognize the effect of public opinion polls on voter preferences, the role of media in public opinion polls, political public relations and advertising practices.
6) Understands the role and importance of visual media in political communication strategies.

Course Contents

The actors of political communication, political communication campaigns, debates and views from around the world and Turkey for the exchange of visual media strategy, campaign samples.

1) What is the concept of political communication? What is its relationship with other fields?
2) What are the actors of political communication, what are their characteristics?
3) Political communication and the features and purposes of the mass media used
4) Political public relations and advertising activities, characteristics, sample applications from the world and Turkey
5) Media Management, Image Management, Internal Communication of Party Organization, Information Management
6) Political election campaigns and rules to be followed when preparing an election campaign
7) Campaign infrastructure studies during the election campaign; Preparation of the campaign center, setting up the campaign management, creating the campaign budget, creating the campaign calendar
8) Midterm Exam / Assessment
9) Political election campaign and candidates positioning strategies based on periodic features from the world and Turkey
