Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Examines the relationship between urbanization problems and internal migration and/or external migration,
2) Examines urban spaces transformed by migration with various approaches.
3) Deals with urban poverty through immigrants and refugees, who have become the main subjects of the informal labor process in the city, in the context of social and socio-economic inequalities.
4) Presents a critical analysis from an urban perspective to 'integration' and/or 'harmony' oriented studies that are frequently involved in migration studies.
5) Focuses on reading the immigration/immigrant policies of states and issues such as immigrant solidarity networks within the framework of urbanization and urban policies, as well as from the perspective of urban studies.

Course Contents

This course deals with migration movements and socio-spatial transformation together and presents urban perspectives on migration studies through theoretical and ethnographic research. In addition, focusing on the intersections of migration studies and urban studies, it discusses the basic principles and concepts of the field and discusses the issues that we encounter both historically and currently in the world and in Turkey such as urbanization, urban refugee, spatial encounters, urban poverty, domestic displacement. aims to process.
