Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) By the end of this course: the Students familarize themselves with the philosophical and ideological concepts of the western thought.
2) Students will have been acquainted with the development of philosophy and philosophical thinking within the US context.
3) Students will have studied various thinkers and philosophers such as R.W. Emerson, H.D. Thoreau, C.S. Peirce, W. James, J. Dewey.
4) Students will have studied various philosophical and political schools of thought and ideas relevant to the concept of American thought, such as Transcendentalism, Pragmatism, Darwinism and the theory of evolution and the issue of religiosity.
5) the students will have learned to be civil and tolerant against different cultures

Dewey, various philosophical movements, Transcendentalism, Pragmatism, Darvinism and spirituality 2. The class-discussion of New-Pragmatism and New-Conservatism starting from Puritan culture and ideology to the present day discussions
