Course Contents

1. The study of the rise of the novel, followed by a discussion of complex interactions of the novel with other forms and with the social context, 2. Readings include works by Alexander Pope, John Dryden, Jonathan Swift, Samuel Johnson, Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding, Samuel Richardson, Laurence Sterne and others.
