Course Contents

Candidates are provided with in-depth knowledge on the examples of resettlement in the world and in Turkey after earthquakes, various settlement patterns, temporary and permanent settlements, alternative systems for design and construction of housing, examples from different cultures.

Weekly Schedule

1) An overview of the notion of earthquake (earthquake/ground, earthquake/structure relation)
2) Examination of post-earthquake settlements and structural applications
3) What are "Permanent Settlement" and "Permanent Housing"?
4) Student presentations regarding examples of post-earthquake settlements from different cultures and their comperative analyses
5) Examination of alternative construction systems in post-disaster housing design in earthquake zones
6) Student presentations regarding construction systems in earthquake zones
7) Examination and explanations of the site selections regarding earthquake housing and its relation with the city development through examples
