Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Understanding that architectural education needs more crossdisciplinary cooperation in the fast changing world. Discussing the effects of developing technologies, globalization/localization, sustainability, ecologicial concerns etc. on architecture and how to tackle the issues caused by these concepts on a theorotical level. To discuss how architectural education can adapt and renew itself by integrating literature to new esthetic understandings and new spacial design.
2) Classifying major works of literature that emphasize architecture and discussing them.
3) Analyzing these works of literature through an architectural point of view.
4) Discussing how architecture will be shaped and affected by literatüre. Understanding how space can ve designed in a non-tangible way.
5) Improving the theorotical, artistic and esthetic views of students through study of rich Works of literature.

Course Contents

The relation between architecture and literatüre; Discussing what architecture can gain from literatüre; Classifying great works of literature in architectural themes and evaluating them; Analyzing what great works of literature that emphasize architecture could mean for the present and the future of the profession; In the context of architecure-literature forming a database for perceptive spacial design through literature and to discuss how it can be converted to tangible spacial design.
