Misyon Programın hedefleri İngiliz Dili Eğitiminde temel kuramsal ve yöntemsel alanları tanıtmaktır. The objective of the graduate program is to introduce major theoretical and methodological issues in English Language Teaching. The MA program focuses on current issues in teaching and learning languages and professional development of English language teachers. Program Genel Profili İngiliz Dili Eğitimi Tezli Yüksek Lisans Programı iki yıllık bir programdır. Birinci eğitim yılında teorik dersler yer almakta, ikinci eğitim yılında ise tez hazırlanmaktadır. The programme includes two years and has highly academic standards covering SLA studies, research methods, issues related to sociolinguistics, curriculum design and evaluation, and applied linguistics. The objective of the graduate programs in English Language Education is to equip the students with advanced and specialized knowledge in the field and to help them acquire skills for research. A well-balanced emphasis on theory and application is maintained throughout the programs. It is hoped that graduates of the M.A. program will engage in teaching or research activities and develop adequate motivation for more advanced graduate work in the field.
Mezunlar İçin İstihdam Olanakları Yüksek lisans programından mezun olan adaylar, Milli Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı ilköğretim ve ortaöğretim ve yüksek Öğretim Kurumlarında öğretmenlik, yöneticilik, program tasarımcısı, sınav hazırlama uzmanı, çevirmen olarak çalışabilirler. Students who complete the programme and obtain the MA degree can work as English teachers , administrators, programme designers, translators and testing experts in different institutions where the Ministry of Education is in charge of. They can also work in higher education institutions and private institutions as instructors, lecturers, administrators, programme designers and translators. They can also runtheir own language schools or translation offices. They can also work as academics in private or state universities starting as research assistants or instructors. There might be many other opportunities for the graduates both in private and state sector as employees or administrators.
Sonraki Eğitim Olanakları Yüksek Lisans programını bitiren adaylar aynı üniversitede veya farklı bir üniversitede bir doktora programına başvurabilirler ve gerekli koşulları sağladıkları takdirde bu programa kabul edilebilirler. Doktora programını bitiren adaylar, aynı üniversitede veya farklı bir üniversitede doktora sonrası (post-doktora) çalışmalara başvurabilirler ve gerekli koşulları sağladıkları takdirde bu programlara kabul edilebilirler. For MA programmes there is an access to PhD programmes which means, after graduation the graduates can apply for PhD programmes both at home and abroad if required conditions are fulfilled. After graduation from the PhD programme, candidates can apply for a post-doctoral programme at home and abroad as well. Along with PhD programmes, candidates can also apply for EdD programmes at home and abroad.

Completion of coursework, getting passing grades from the courses, writing up the thesis, and thesis defense within the required time period consist of the requirements. The required score as the passing grade is 2.50.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The evaluation is performed through mid-term exams (out of 40%) and final exams (out of 60%). The final average is to be 2.50 out of 4 at the end of two years. For mid-term exam, projects, research studies, or presentations can be assigned. Students can work individually or in groups. Projects and research papers are presented in class. There are specific evaluation criteria for the presentations. Students are expected to write academic papers about the research they conduct in the field, which can be primary, secondary or or higher education institutions.

The equivalences and coefficients of letter grades out of 100 points is as follows.
